12" Galvanized Steel Wearband
A 12" high galvanized steel wearband provides added impact protection, strength, and stiffness.
5-Year Stemco® Platinum Performance Wheel End System
The Stemco Platinum Performance wheel end system includes Guardian® HP oil seals, PRO-TORQ® spindle nuts and Integrated Sentinel® hubcaps. The entire system is warranted for five years and covers both parts and labor.
Air Ride Suspension
The industry's leading supplier, Hendrickson® provides our standard VanTraax® air ride suspension. Designed to provide load protection as well as driver comfort, the VanTraax integrated axle mounting design reduces fatigue stress on the axles and increases service life. Hendrickson's Quik-Draw® pin release mechanism is an included standard making re-positioning the slider easier for the driver.
Bendix® TAB-6 ABS System
Bendix braking components including spring brake chambers, automatic slack adjusters, SR-5™ Relay Valve and TAB-6 ABS are standard equipment on all 4000D-X® Composite™ trailers. Bendix products provide the operator with outstanding performance, and high reliability from matched parts that compliment many new tractors equipped with Bendix components. The simple upgrade to a TAB-6 advanced braking system with roll stability is now a lower cost option that can significantly improve fleet safety.
Stainless Steel Rear Door Frame
Reducing maintenance costs and increasing trade values are the primary reasons for Utility's standard stainless steel rear door frame, including buckplate, corner posts and header. For resistance to dock impact damage, the stainless-steel buckplate featurs a 3/8" thick lower "bang" bar and light protection bars. Utility's unique stainless steel rear door frame design provides an industry leading door opening height of 110-1/2" for maximum forklift clearance.
Unique Roof Design
Utility's uniquely engineered roof structure features a bi-directionally tensioned .040" aluminum roof skin with diagonal reinforcing plates at all four corners and full-length edge-capping strips to prevent moisture entry. The roof skin is supported by epoxy-bonded, 1" deep, anti-snag roof bows. The roof skin is mechanically "crimped" around the top rail edges as an additional safeguard against moisture entry into the cargo area.
Heavy-Duty King Pin Assembly
The entire king pin assembly is 100% coated both inside and out, with a "self-healing" rust-preventive coating for superior resistance to today's road deicing chemicals. For increased pick up strength, the approach plate is turned up the front wall a full 12" and is supported by six formed, high-tensile steel channels with legs pointed down to give (12) points of contact to the approach plate. Full-length end plates are used to secure the king pin assembly to the bottom rails with 3/8" diameter squeezed stainless steel rivets.
High-Strength Front Wall
The extruded aluminum, 4-3/4" radius corner posts provide square loading space for full length loads and also lower maintenance costs. Steel "tees" and vertical steel reinforcing end plates are welded to the 12" high approach plate between the (4) 2" deep hat section front wall posts to prevent front wall post damage caused by pallet impacts.
Modular Electrical System
For easy access, simpler maintenance and less downtime, the gladhands and nose box are externally mounted. The modular, Utility designed, internally grounded main harness is warranted for 10 years. The harness features all soldered connections versus crimped connections and provides 100% plug-in connectors. LED upper clearance lights and stop-turn-tail lights provide up to 10,000 hrs of trouble free service. Lower rear side clearance lights are recessed under the bottom rail to reduce damage and maintenance costs.
Reliable Support Leg Bracing
For greater strength and lower tare weight, Utility's uniquely designed aerospace-style wingplates feature collared holes and embossed ribs. Additional durability is provided by formed channel "X" braces. Web stiffeners between front and rear pairs of crossmembers are designed to absorb uncoupling impact.

Integrated Threshold Plate Assembly
For maximum strength and durability, the integral 27" deep diamond plate threshold is fully welded to both the buckplate and the 24" deep side gussets. The integral threshold eliminates the rotting of floor boards under an "overlay" style threshold plate.Utility's high-strength dock bumper is fully integrated into the rear threshold assembly and complies with U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) and Canadian requirements.

Weather Tight Floor System
Our hardwood flooring planks are pre-undercoated for 100% coverage to extend floor life, and a weatherproof sealant is applied between every floorboard seam, full length of the floor, to keep the payload dry. For superior strength, the 80K, pre-coated steteel crossmembers are attached to the bottom rails with four 3/8" squeezed rivets. Utility-designed gaskets are installed between the outside mounted air and electrical troughs and the bottom rails for added protection from moisture leaks.
