Utility Trailer Manufacturing Celebrates 75,000th Dry Van Milestone

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., April 26, 2016 – Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, the industry’s largest manufacturer of refrigerated trailers and a leading manufacturer of dry freight vans, flatbeds, and Tautliner® curtainsided trailers is pleased to announce that it has surpassed another major milestone at its Glade Spring, Virginia manufacturing plant when Pottle’s Transportation, based in Bangor, Maine, purchased the plant’s 75,000th 4000D-X Composite® dry van trailer.

“This is a powerful testament to the character of our Glade Spring employees,” said Craig Bennett, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing for Utility. “They have overcome several challenges and have earned the admiration of Utility and the local community.” In the early morning of April 28th, 2011, the Glade Spring community was struck by an EF-3 tornado, critically damaging the Utility plant. Utility employees pulled together and within hours began the process of rebuilding. The plant reopened at full capacity the week of May 9th, 2011. The facility then expanded with a second assembly line added in April 2012, and in following year, the plant produced its 50,000th dry van.

Utility recently hosted a celebration to mark the 75,000th milestone, which was well attended by several notable city and state officials that included the Washington County Board of Supervisors, the Mayor of Glade Spring, and a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. “We were honored to have the leadership of our community attend this special event,” said Sam Cassell, Utility’s Glade Spring, Virginia Plant Manager. “We are also pleased to have Barry Pottle and his family with us to receive the 75,000th trailer. Pottle’s Transportation has been a long-standing customer of Utility and we appreciate their commitment.” The celebration took place on Wednesday, April 13th at the Utility Trailer Manufacturing Plant in Glade Spring.
