Manufacturing Engineer - Internship | Enterprise, AL

Job Description:
Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company is looking for a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer Intern responsible for implementing and monitoring Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering initiatives, various process improvement programs, and capital expenditure projects in our manufacturing Plant in Enterprise, Alabama.

 
Job Description:
  • Identify, develop, implement and monitor Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering initiatives throughout the production and production-support operations of the Plant.
  • Act as liaison between the Plant and Corporate Engineering/Drafting Department to provide feedback for new configuration designs/changes, and to reconcile drawing/BOM discrepancies for production orders.
  • Will work with various process improvement ideas and programs to help develop and implement a continuous improvement effort in the Plant.
  • Will develop man hour standards and efficiencies for base production and different production options through the use of time studies and data capture/analysis. Will work with corporate office on maintaining work hour standards.
  • Will develop documented work processes and procedures for fabrication and production areas.
  • Will work with various vendors and suppliers to support Capital Expenditure projects, including project scope of work, planning and project execution/implementation.
  • May need to use internal and external resources to assist with areas that require technical expertise.
  • Will work with the Maintenance Department to ensure proper machine and work center up time and preventive maintenance scheduled down time.
  • May work on standardized work processes.
  • May be assigned one type of equipment/tooling/operation to become the expert for the company.
  • May have to work various shifts to accomplish goals.
Requirements:
  • Must have completed or be actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related mechanical engineering field.
  • Must have strong computer skills, to include Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, as well as 2D and 3D CAD systems. Experience with Anvil and Solidworks a plus.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a Team to meet Plant goals and take responsibility for actions.
  • Must be able to motivate and work well with people.
  • Must be well organized and have good follow-up skills.
  • Must be a proponent of standardization
  • Must be able to travel within the United States and Mexico.
  • Previous experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of semi truck trailer manufacturing and component fabrication/assembly is a strong plus.
Job Type:  Part Time or Full-time.

 

Education:
  • 2 or more years in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering Field (Required)
