Standen’s Limited Manufacturing Facility

Located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Standen’s currently exports a wide variety of industrial, automotive and agricultural products throughout the world. The photo above shows Standen’s Plant One and Plant Two with the City of Calgary Skyline and the Rocky Mountains in the background. Plant Three and Buildings Four and Five are not shown. Many members of the Standen’s Team are involved in community activities.

Included in the main Manufacturing Facility is a fully equipped tool and die shop with CNC capability which is complemented by a strong computerized engineering department. This enables OEM, aftermarket, military and custom orders of every type to be carried through from design to finished product. Much of the special machinery and equipment utilized by Standen’s has been engineered and constructed in-house.

Precise quality control plays a major role in our production of leaf springs & suspension components, trailer axles, and soil conservation tools. This emphasis on precision is crucial to meeting the very demanding product specifications required to meet military standards. Statistical methods are widely used.

Many diverse kinds of experience and technology are involved in Standen’s range of services, giving a flexibility and capability that ensures the delivery of top quality products at the right time and at the right price.

You’ll enjoy working with our team. Our approach has been to consistently and substantially re-invest in people, equipment and technology. This has proven a winning formula for turning new ideas into effective solutions.

Environmentally Friendly Products and Processes.

Standen’s steel leaf springs and other products bring more than superior stability and performance — they are environmentally friendly. Spring steel is recycled, not discarded in land fills like rubber or fiber reinforced plastics. Our raw material is purchased from high tech steel mills committed to the recycling process.

All Standen’s plants are fired by clean burning natural gas. We also recapture, scrub and recycle quenching oils and other materials used in the manufacturing process.

Standen’s routinely recycles all it’s paper and consumables. It’s important to us to do our part to ensure a cleaner world for future generations.

“Striving for excellence through teamwork and commitment”

The Evolution of The Holland Group

Since 1910, The Holland Group has evolved from building a safety disconnect for horse-drawn plows to developing fifth wheels, kingpins, pintle hooks and landing gear for the transportation industry. And has strategically placed manufacturing and service locations throughout the world.

In the past 10 years, Holland has added critical new product, service and technology dimensions with the acquisition of Binkley mechanical trailer suspensions and landing gear; and Neway trailer, truck and bus air suspensions.

Today, Holland is much more than a fifth wheel company. We are the leading supplier of safe, reliable vehicle coupling, lift and suspension system products and technologies worldwide.

Hutchens Industries, Inc., is a leading manufacturer of trailer suspensions, sub-frames and a wide variety of steel fabrications and castings. The company was established in 1950 by its founder, C. Ted Hutchens. It was an outgrowth of Mr. Hutchens’ prior experience as a manufacturer of Cargo Tanks for trucks and trailers. Hutchens operated at a number of Springfield sites and, in 1962, launched its first major expansion by opening its ‘Marshfield Steel’ plant in nearby Marshfield, Missouri. The company grew rapidly and, in 1969, built an additional manufacturing facility in Mansfield, Missouri. In 1974, a steel foundry operating in Springfield as Grand Foundries, Inc., was relocated to Mansfield where it became the Mans-Steel Foundry Division. In 1978, a steel processing plant was erected in Seymour, Missouri. Strategically located between Marshfield and Mansfield, its mission was to supply steel to both plants. While continuing and expanding its role as ‘steel processor’ for the entire company, Seymour grew to become the center for suspension component manufacture and finished product distribution, as well. The growth of Seymour resulted in the closing of the Marshfield operations in the late ’80s.

The past three years have certainly been rather trying and difficult times for the heavy-duty trucking industry, as well as the overall US economy – but rather than get caught in the negative aspects of this downturn, Hutchens drove through with steady focus and determination. The company invested in additional manufacturing capabilities through improved tooling, concentrated design techniques, expanded capacity, and production efficiencies. By targeting quality management programs, Hutchens was able to upgrade its certification to ISO 9000-2000. The company also initiated the steps towards implementing an ERP system and launching the program with Navision, a Microsoft subsidiary.

Hutchens remains a closely held, family owned concern. Jeffrey C. Hutchens is its president and CEO succeeding his father, Lewis G. Hutchens who died in 1985. Lewis Hutchens had likewise succeeded his father, the company’s founder, C. Ted Hutchens upon his death in 1968. The company’s products are shipped worldwide. Its customers include most of the trailer manufacturers, large and small, throughout North America, several other suspension builders and a broad range of firms using fabricated and cast steel products.
